My husband and I travelled to Cobh on a cruise ship from Southampton. Cobh is a pretty little town set alongside the River. Many of the houses are colourwashed and look impressive. There was a small market selling local produce and colourful gardens along the short promenade with a band playing lively Irish music from the bandstand. There are a small selection of shops, restaurants and local pubs. St. Coleman's Cathedral at the top of the hill is a very impressive building both from outside and within and its carillon made a lasting impression on us . The local people were both friendly and helpful and although the weather was very disappointing for the time of year, we have lasting memories of our visit to a pleasant small Irish town. Unfortunately Cobh and the rolling hills around it were shrouded in mist for most of our time there. The famous City of Cork is roughly a 20 minute train ride on a regular train service from Cobh and is well worth a visit for anyone wishing to tour this area of Ireland.

We lived in West Cork for 6 years and were very sorry to leave.
Everybody who goes to Ireland has a great time--rain or shine. Shine is prettier but rain brings you closer to the locals.
Go the greatest village in the world, Ballydehob, and say Hello from Michael & Karin.
Cheers
