We went on our first ever snowboarding holiday to Irwins with Inghams. The hotel was really clean and comfortable, and the rooms even had a fridge, which is unusual. Each room had 2 queen size beds and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel also had a Hot Tub (which was fanrastic after a days boarding) and a sauna too. It also offered free ski/board lockers in the basement which saved getting wet floors in your room. The staff were very friendly (not unusual in Canada) and helpful.
Banff itself is a tourist town geared up for the traveller, there are lots of restaurants serving as many different foods as you can think of, although steak & ribs is the most common. The prices aren't bad, a little less than the UK for food, about the same for beer. However when it comes to clothes or ski gear you will save a fortune, we both came home with board/boots and bindings for less than £150pp!!!! although this was for a starter board, but I believe the better equipment is also a lot cheaper. There are 3 ski resorts in the area - Sunshine (our favourite), Lake Louise and Mount Norquay. Lake Louise is the furthest away at about 40 mins on the ski bus.
We had a fantastic time and are already booking for next year in the same hotel. Our only gripe is with the fact that because Inghams charters the flight from My Travel, My Travel charge you £15.00 for board carriage which is a bit cheeky when you are clearly going on a ski holiday and to charge extra for the equipment even if under your baggage allowance is poor, but that said it shouldn't put anyone off. Do yourself a favour - GO!!!!
