Just got back from spending a week in the villa amore in Positano. It is absolutely beautiful! we would recommend it to anyone who wanted to stay somewhere that was romantic and chilled.

Anyone who stays there though should be aware of the hidden extras.
We had to pay 52 euros for a weeks worth of electricity and we only had the air con on for half an hour! and we were out most days. We also had to pay 20euros per person at the end of the week for cleaning. and was charged 5 euros for a cup that we broke that must have been only worth 50c. The steps up the the villa are said to be approx 150 in the discription. but there are actually 182 and they are a killer!
but apart from this when you get up there it is gorgeous, you just dont look forward to going out again!

We have just returned from the Excelsior in Amalfi. The resort has beautiful views, the hotel sitting area very nice, rooms are adequate but all are different and its a matter of luck whether you get a good one. We were lucky as other rooms were pokey and miserable.

The food is the worse I have ever had.Breakfast is mean, runny scrambled eggs, cold tomatoes, processed ham and cheese, rolls, toast, jam, coco pops and corn flakes. Dinners were small, cold and disgusting, never saw any fruit,we ate lunch in resturants because we knew we would not eat dinner. Our in-flight meal was like feast in comparison. We found the staff friendly and helpful until I complained about the food and was treated with total disinterest.

Dont stay at the Excelsior and ruin what should be a wonderful holiday.

When we arrived we were allocated a twin room in the gardens - dont go there!!! absolutely minescule, one had to squeeze past the door to get into the bathroom. The room was very tiny, the view excellent but unfortunately there was no air conditioning and as balcony shutters had to be left shut - beware mosquitos - during the night we both awakened drenched in sweat. We were miserable, we requested a change of room at Reception the next day and were told rather frostily that there were no rooms available for another two days - two further nights of sweat - we were told however that as we were with Thomsons we hadnt paid for air conditioning so we had to pay extra - believe me we would have paid the earth to get a good cool nights sleep. We were moved to another room, much bigger than the tiny hovel we were in.

The food in this hotel was gross. The breakfasts consisted of cold meats, processed cheese, cake, scrambled egg and watery juice, every day!!! It totally put us off scrambled egg for good. The evening meals werent much better and apart from puting on weight I believe we both lost a few pounds!!

The entertainment was absolutely zilch apart from one nights dancing on the terrace. One had to make ones own entertainment relying on the local Sita bus. The private beach had to be paid for and also one had to take a bus to get there. I shall indeed return to the lovely Neapolitan Riviera but will not be returning to the Hotel Excelsior and would would most definitely not recommend this Hotel.
