Niger is a landlocked country in W Africa, named after the Niger River. It borders Nigeria and Benin to the S, Burkina Faso and Mali to the W, Algeria and Libya to the N and Chad to the E.
Niger has plenty to offer the traveller, but, check the security situation and government travel alerts before embarking on an adventure here (political instability and military led coups are still a threat to travellers). The Air Mountains & Tenere Desert are amongst W Africa’s most spectacular scenery. Add that to the Saharan towns of Agadez and Zinder with their mudbrick architecture and fascinating locals, and you have a destination full of intrigue and adventure. |
