Guinea-Bissau, located in W Africa (bordering Senegal to the N and Guinea to the S and E) has a warm and friendly population with a relaxed feel. Pastel coloured buildings and nice cafés are worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere.
The country’s big attraction to tourists is the Arquipélago dos Bijagós. These are delta islands that are lined with beautiful white-sand beaches, washed with turquoise waters, and populated by a culture of friendly people. These island treats provide a unique collection of positives that aren't particularly symbolic of W Africa. In comparison, the mainland symbolises much of W Africa, including mangrove-lined rivers, a beautiful beach at Varela and rainforests in the S that are home to chimpanzees and elephants amongst other wild animals. |
