Belize Travel Guide

Dabbling its toes in the Caribbean Sea, Belize has more in common with its island neighbours than with the fiery volatility of Central America. English-speaking, Creole-dominated and with a thoroughly coup-free history, this tiny country has an atmosphere so laid-back it's almost comatose.

Unpaved roads, high prices and a lack of infrastructure can make it a difficult place to travel, but it compensates with dramatic Mayan ruins looming out of untouched jungle and secluded eco-lodges and serves as a divers paradise with the worlds second largest barrier reef just off its shores.

The popular Belize City offers a variety of attractions such as a world-class zoo, a museum, historic buildings and the Maya site of Altun Ha. Despite a few varied adhoc attractions, there's no hiding the fact that Belize is a destination for the outdoor fanatics and adventure travellers. Nightlife is limited, sophisticated shopping isn't on offer and fancy restaurants are in short supply, but there is plenty of scope for diving, snorkelling, hiking, birdwatching, kayaking and exploring. If the latter sounds like your kind of travel destination, then Belize will not disappoint.
