San Marino is the 3rd smallest state in Europe (after the Vatican City and Monaco), and claims to be the world's oldest republic. According to tradition, it was founded by a Christian stonemason named Marinus in 301 A.D.

The Three Towers of San Marino are the most popular tourist attraction. They consist of a group of towers located on the three peaks of Monte Titano in the capital, also called San Marino, they are depicted on both the national flag and coat of arms.

This city-state of just 61km sq, holds a wealth of history, museums and priceless architectural monuments, while a wealth of assorted crafts and souvenirs provide a vast, pleasant shopping experience.

Apart from the Vatican City, it is the only city-state that is completely surrounded by another country.
