Ignored in bygone times, Namibia is a destination that until modern times, was relatively ignored on a world stage. Discovered in the 19th century, the indigenous people fought valiantly for their independence against the intruding colonial Germans. Ultimately, 60% of the native population were wiped out in the S of the country and modern day Namibia is reflected with the influence of German colonisation (evident in the architecture, food and language, particularly in the capital city of Windhoek).

Only in the last couple of decades, visitors have discovered the vast potential of this resource rich country as a tourist destination, with its incredible desert landscapes, sunshine, wildlife and a rugged, raw, barren beauty. Namibia boasts remarkable natural attractions such as the Namib desert, the Fish River Canyon Park, Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert. Namibia also produces some of the world's highest quality diamonds.

Popular cities and other destinations in Namibia include:
  • Windhoek -- Namibia's capital and largest city.
  • Keetmanshoop -- Small town on the rail lines and highway, jumping off point for treks in the Fish River Canyon Park.
  • Lüderitz -- Colonial-era German coastal town.
