The attractive village of Panormos is another touristy resort in Kalymnos. It is located north-west of Pothia, in a verdant region full of lush vegetation. Linaria, Platis Yialos and Kantouni are the beaches of the village attracting, with their beauty and cleanliness, the growing tourism of the island.

Accommodations are available in the village and near the superb beaches as well as a few shops, bars, cafes and taverns.

The area is mostly budget and middlemarket couples (mature and young) and young families, of mainly British and German nationality, seeking peace and quiet. Also beach-lovers and walkers. Not for those wanting nightlife.

The accommodation here is mostly rental rooms in tavernas, self-catering properties and small hotels, with 1 huge property in the resort and a couple of all-inclusives on the outskirts.

Panormos is roughly midway along the north coast (14 mls E of Rethymnon, 49 mls SE of Chania and its airport, 36 mls W of Heraklion and its airport). It is in a fertile valley set between the main coast highway and the sea. It is bordered by a small river to the east and surrounded by farmland, olive groves and orchards.

The myriad islands in the Aegean Sea are easily accessible from Piraeus, the historic harbour of Greece's mainland capital, Athens, by ferry or hydrofoil, offering a unique chance for 'island-hopping'. Many of the larger islands also have airports with connections to Athens or seasonally with major European cities.

In the S of the mainland, the capital Athens suffers from being overcrowded and polluted but nevertheless intrigues and delights visitors and is dominated by its major landmark, the Parthenon. In contrast, Thessaloniki in the N is vibrant and modern with a Byzantine flavour. The remains of Greece's past and wonders are mainly found on the Peloponnese Peninsula, S of Corinth.
