Karavados Travel Guide

Overview Things to do Suitability Country Info (Greece)
A typical small, sleepy Greek village measuring ½ ml long by ¼ ml wide, with tiny, narrow streets winding off on both sides of the main through road.

It boasts a picturesque church, an attractive mix of tumbledown rustic and smart, modern buildings, colourful gardens, a couple of small tavernas and a tiny minimarket/bar where the local ancients gather to drink coffee and play draughts.

This area caters for middlemarket independent types, couples and mature travellers looking for a comfortable, scenic base or a relaxing away-from-it-all break where birdsong is about as noisy as it gets. Not a lot for families. Popular with Greeks, Germans, Italians and, more recently, British holidaymakers. Own transport an advantage.

There is one large hotel, an apartment block and a few private houses.

Locality:

Karavados is in the south of the island (i9½ mls SE of Argostoli, 2 mls N of Pessada, 3 mls E of the airport. About 1 ml inland from the nearest coast at St Thomas, off the main road between St Thomas and Argostoli. It is set at the base of a mountain in scenic, rugged, pine-covered terrain, surrounded by olive and citrus groves. A small, flattish plain lies between the village and the coast, where the road drops sharply to the small beach.
