Komeno hardly qualifies as a resort as it is more a tiny settlement surrounded by olive trees, lying 350 yards off the main road running from Corfu Town to the N of the island. It is basically a residential area full of exclusive gated private villas, and access to these and the hotels is by way of a road so narrow that traffic lights are needed at either end.
The "centre" consists of a small general shop disguising itself as a "supermarket", a small restaurant and a scooter-hire place. There is an unsealed road that leads to a small chapel out by the bay which makes for a nice walk. This area of Corfu is suitable for those wanting a quiet holiday mainly suited to mature couples. Nothing for children or teenagers. There are a few large hotels with all amenities, generally tucked away from any hustle and bustle. There are private rooms for rent, and one small block of apartments. Locality: Komeno is on a tiny peninsula jutting from the east coast of the island, (it is 7 mls N of Corfu Town and airport and 16¼ mls SW of Kassiopi). It is halfway between Corfu Town and Ipsos. On the north side of Gouvia Bay, on a hilly wooded headland, facing vast Gouvia marina on opposite side. |
