Kontokali is on east coast, (4 mls NW of Corfu Town and airport. Off main road from Corfu Town, next to shallow Gouvia Bay). It is predominantly flat coastal area with low peninsula curving around to side where most accommodation is located.
The small village is centred on a narrow street which runs parallel to the main NS road and is lined with a few shops, rental agencies, bars and tavernas for about three-quarters of a mile. Many of the buildings are distinctly old but the village lacks Greek character. Much of the waterfront is taken up by a vast marina which also has a small general store, cafe and playground. The village predominantly caters for the needs of yacht people and locals. The area is mainly for families, and those requiring a quieter, relaxing holiday. The majority of the hotels are towards the quieter family run hotels, and mostly away from the village/towns of Kontokali/Gouvia. Beaches are child friendly, with shallow depths with a slow deepening. Between the two groins is a shallow area more suitable for children to play. The beach is cordoned off for Boats and other watersports. There are various types of Hotels and Apartments in Kontokali, although in some Travel Brochures they will be indicated under either Kontokali or Gouvia. |
