In recent years the ancient granite city of Aberdeen has experienced an economic boom, it is now a major centre for the North Sea oil industry. Aberdeen has retained its historical charm though and is known as "the flower of Scotland" - carefully tended parks, gardens and planters fill the city. Visit the ancient and noteworthy St. Machar's Cathedral or, as a contrast for the whole family, Codona's Amusement Park, close to the beautifully maintained beach. Storybook Glen - a fantasy theme park appeals to everyone. The Gordon Highlander's Museum is of interest to the military inclined, and the Planetarium will also impress.
