Overview Things to do Suitability Country Info (Spain)
Cadiz, the oldest city in Andalucia (over three thousands years old) has a unique personality. It is located in the southernmost part of Spain, and separated from Africa by the straight of Gibraltar.

The province of Cadiz is mountainous. To the north-east, are the mountain ranges of Algodonales, la Mota, Líjar, Grazalema and Santa Margarita. Southerly are the sierras of Aljibe and Líbar.

Cádiz sits like a worn but still-shining jewel at the tip of a sandy isthmus in an Atlantic bay. Stretching north from here is the gently sloping Marco de Jerez area, bordered by the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and Puerto de Santa María -- a land of bull ranches, prancing Andalusian horses, and one of the world's best-known wines, sherry, aged in cobweb-filled cellars that have barely changed in centuries.

Cadiz is part of the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) which forms the Andalucian Atlantic shore in the provinces of Cadiz and Huelva. Its most important tourist centres are Barbate, Algeciras, Tarifa, Conil de la Frontera, Chiclana de la Frontera, Cadiz, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Rota, Chipiona, Sanlucar de Barrameda, Torrre de Higuera, Mazagon, Punta Unbria, El Rompido, Cantilla and Isla.
