Overview Things to do Suitability Country Info (Spain)
When people mention the Balearic Islands, Ibiza/Mallorca/Menorca take the \'limelight\'. Few will mention Ibiza\'s little sister \'Formentera\' and even fewer will have even heard of Menorca\'s little sister \'Cabrera\'. Often referred to as the \'Hidden Island\', Cabrera is not a main stream holiday destination due to its access difficulty and tourist barriers. First of all you will need a permission to visit the island. If you book a group travel from Mallorca, that should not be any problem. If you wish to visit Cabrera individually, for instance with your own boat, you will need to contact the ICONA (Instituto Nacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza) , Plaza España 8, Palma de Mallorca. Access to some areas of the island is forbidden in any case, as well as fishing or to bring domestic animals. Boats may anchor exclusively in the port of Cabrera, the maximum number of permissions is 50 per day. Last but not least you should not forget to bring food and drinks, as the island\'s gastronomical offer is reduced to a single small canteen. If the barriers haven\'t put you off you will experience a piece of untouched paradise. Most beautiful is certainly Cabrera\'s lonely coast. If you are lucky, you can observe the play of the dolphins from there. In the bay Cala Gandulf there is the beautiful cave, Cova Blanca and in its interior you will experience unique reflections of light. Apart from the beauties of nature there is also the pirate fortress of the 14th century, located close to the port which is certainly worth a visit. All in all, Cabrera\'s biggest negative of its access barriers ironically results in its biggest positive of untouched beauty. For the few that get to step on this island it will be an experience like no other.
