Netherlands Travel Guide

The Kingdom of the Netherlands, (Dutch: Nederland, also commonly called Holland in English) is a Benelux country and a founding member of the European Union. The Netherlands border Germany to the E and Belgium to the S. To the W, the country faces the North Sea and the United Kingdom. The Netherlands is easy to travel in and the locals are friendly and speak excellent English, but many towns are still surrounded by canals and castle walls, the endlessly flat landscape which inspired the nation's early artists still stretches unbroken to the horizons, and the dykes still occasionally threaten to give way.

The country capital Amsterdam, is also the capital of culture, coffeeshops and canals. Its incredible beauty is hard to describe, and yet a variety of other impressive cities are only hours, or even minutes, away by train or car. Haarlem, Groningen City, Rotterdam, Utrecht City, Den Haag, Leiden, Delft, Maastricht.

Outside of the cities, the Netherlands once again borders on over-achievement. Its incredible array of national parks is perfectly complimented by shimmering lakes, sandy coastlines, and a chain of windswept islands. Best of all, it can all be seen from the comfort of a bicycle.
