Tossa de Mar is located in the Spanish region of Catalonia on the Costa Brava. This is a pretty town with cobbled streets, a magnificent ancient castle and a beautiful mountainous hinterland with lush green valleys, gorges and natural springs.
Theres a bustling beach life in this attractive resort which appeals to couples and families rather than all night revellers.
Tossa lies at the heart of the Costa Brava, 95 kilometres north of Barcelona and 100 kilometres south of the French border. Its a world away from its near neighbour, Lloret de Mar which is the place to go if youre after more of a Club 18-30 type of holiday.
The coastline is a 14-kilometre stretch of sandy tourist beaches and small sheltered coves. Theres a full range of watersports to be enjoyed here; the crystal clear waters and nearby islands are a magnet for scuba divers, snorkellers (and those who prefer underwater discovery from the safety of a glass bottomed boat!)
Theres plenty of activity down at the seafront during the summer months with bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours and gift shops. The most attractive part of this historic town is the Villa Vella (old quarter) with its ancient defence walls and towers still in tact.
This resort suits all ages, middle bracket. Popular with Spanish, Italian, German, Russian and some British. Attracts a lot of families with young children, plus groups of more mature holidaymakers.
Tossa de Mar is situated in NE Spain, on the Mediterranean coast, at the centre of the Costa Brava (30 mls S of Gerona and its airport. 55 mls N of Barcelona airport). Tossa de Mar Faces a small bay, with shoulders of rock jutting into the sea, splitting the beaches into larger Platja Gran to the S and smaller Mar Menuda to the N, which has a collection of tall rocks and a tiny island on the seaward side. Enclosed by rolling hills containing some small suburbs.
The main beach is about 150 yds wide and therefore has plenty of space, except in the peak season, when it gets crowded only at the water's edge. The smaller beach is generally as full but has the advantage of an inlet the size of a small swimming pool for toddlers to swim in. Both are of coarse golden sand. A small cove, Es Codolar, is on the other side of an old wall to the S of town, and comprises a 30-yd arc of sand and shingle with rocky edges and a snack bar; sunbeds for hire. Nearby Cala Llevada is good for water sports and Mar Menuda beach for snorkelling.
There are some good local craft shops in the old town, especially for leather and pottery. A few fashion shops in the centre for shoes and clothes. A food market on Thursdays on the Avinguda Joan Maragall.
Duringthe daytime activities are mainly on beach, with windsurfing, parasailing and other water sports, there is a dive centre, also go-karting, boat trips to coves and beaches, a weekly guided walk from tourist office, tourist minitrain.
The nightlife here offers some discos, otherwise, a trip to Lloret or a medieval banquet tour.
The main concentration of restaurants is on the sea front, opposite the main beach, with a range from pizzas to paella and locally caught seafood. Also a line of slightly more expensive restaurants on Portal, along the old town wall.
Roses - Tourist Attraction
This beautiful small town is perfectly located in a bay to the north of Costa Brava, and just 30kms from the French border. There is a rich history connected to this rather quiet resort. The Citadel to the east of the town was built nearly 500 years ago. Home to two natural reserves and bird watchers will delight in the area. Of course the beaches are pristine fine white sands, which seem to stretch for ever.

Water World - Children's Activity
Just before you enter Lloret De Mar, This will tire the children and entertain the young at heart. Plenty of tubes, rapids, wave pool, Jacuzzi's, slides for the little ones. Do not think of leaving after an hour or two. A good day should be planned for this excursion. There are places in the huge area for relaxation and loads of facilities.
