Torremolinos has the ingredients of an unforgettable dream. From its idyllic climate, to its modern and leading urban infrastructure, swirling to the grande finale of Mediterranean sun, which softly tans the sand of the magnificent beaches, the attractive surrounding landscape, the romantic suggestion of its narrow streets and whitewashes houses, or the wide offer of cultural and leisure activities makes it a different touristic centre, hard to beat because Torremolinos is also the town of entertainment.
Bars and restaurants opened by the dozen and visitors came from all over the world and included well known writers and artists, as well as starlets, aristocrats and seasoned travellers.
Packed with tantalising shops, thronging with people of every nationality and located right at the heart of the town is the pedestrian only Calle San Miguel which is, without a doubt, the best known and representative street; a people watchers paradise where buskers, street vendors, sophisticated shops and ice-cream salesmen converge to create a ambience uniquely memorable - uniquely Torremolinos.
There are lots of large condominium-type hotels, the majority of them 3-star. All offering a good range of facilities such as swimming pools and bars but lacking in atmosphere. Growing choice of apartments in the mid-to-lower range.
Suitable for the bright and brash, with enough choice to suit all tastes and persuasions. Predominantly the budget to middlemarket young and lively as well as families during the summer, with a more mature clientele in the winter.
Torremolinos is situated on Spain's S coast, in the centre of the Costa del Sol ( 10½ mls W of Malaga, 8 mls W of Malaga airport). It is set on a hillside, with the Playamar area to one side and Carihuela in the opposite direction. There is a stiff climb back up from the beach to the centrally located hotels and apartments.
The Torremolinos night life, famous throughout the Costa del Sol, has its own personality defined by a special charm. It not only attracts foreign visitors, but many "malagueños" come every weekend. All of them drawn by the lights, trying to life without limits gather in such spots as Pueblo Blanco or La Nogalera among others. Torremolinos has the vitality to provide fun all night long.
Torremolinos has some of the best beaches on the coast, with 2 main choices. Carihuela, which leads off towards Benalmadena Costa, and Bajondillo, which later becomes Playamar. Both are wide, long and clean and have fine, rather dark sand.
