Newly regenerated countryside offers fantastic opportunities for enjoying the great outdoors. The Taff Trail stretches for 68 miles from Cardiff Bay in the South to Brecon in the north and offers a trail for walkers, mountain bikes and horses.

The Celtic Trail also offers a chance to wander through lush valleys, mountains and forests, all of which are plentiful throughout the valleys of South Wales.

History plays a huge part too in this part of Wales. Once the producer of a third of all of Britain's wealth during the industrial revolution, the valleys are turning green once more but there are plenty of places you can go to see exactly why this area was so important.

Try the Big Pit Museum, where you get a chance to experience life as a miner by going 300 feet underground. Or the World Heritage site at Blaenafon, showcasing two centuries of living history.
