Situated off the coast of mainland China, the mountainous island of Taiwan teams with people in massive urban developments, but at the same time hides some picture-perfect breathtaking vistas behind the scenes. Jet into the airport at the capital, Taipei, and the island below greets you with majestic peaks, rolling hills and plains, basins and inlets, tropical beaches and green forests.
Taiwan is a multi-island:- 1) The Taiwan island proper and its scattering islands, such as Hongtou Isle, Huoshao Isle, Guishan Isle altogether 14 isles attach to it. 2) The Penghus made up of 64 islands. In addition, The Diaoyu Islands (Archipelago) which are composed of 8 islands and some other isles. All in all Taiwan has more than 100 islands big and small. Taiwan's land area is 36 thousand square kilometers, among which the area of Taiwan proper is over 35 thousand square kilometers, occupying more than 97% of the Taiwan's total area. It is China's biggest island and ranks the 28th of the world islands.
At the foot of the mountains cluster the crowded industrial cities and towns. Modern, high-rise buildings play backdrop to numerous traditional folk festivals, and ancient temples sit alongside glass-fronted boutiques in the bustling streets. Old and new live in harmony in Taiwan, and visitors will be enthralled as much by the bustling metropolis of Taipei as with the array of natural attractions throughout this relatively small island.
In the six national parks there are thousands of species of wildlife, 20 percent of which are rare or endangered species, including the Mikado pheasant, the Hsuehshan grass lizard and the Formosan rock monkey. Unique experiences include taking a ride on the Alishan train, one of only three mountain railways in the world, and hiking up northeast Asia's highest mountain, Jade Mountain, and taking in the spectacular sunsets above a sea of clouds. With its volcanic origins, tropical climate and Polynesian flavour Taiwan has often deservedly been dubbed the 'Hawaii of Asia'.
Lungshan Temple is situated at Zhanghua County of Taiwan Province, also known as "Taiwan Forbidden City". It is an important historic site of Taiwan province. Mount Hehuan is located at connected Hehuan Mountain peaks between Nantou County and Hualian County, Taiwan Province. It includes Huhuan main peak, east peak, west peak, south peak, north peak, Hehuan Pinnacle and Stone Gate Mountain etc., all of which are 3000 meters above sea level.
The Palace Museum, former known as the Sun Yet-Sen Museum, is located at Double Brooks outside of Shilin of Taipei City ,Taiwan Province. Built along mountains, is a palace style architecture, which was constructed in accordance with the design of Beijing Forbidden City, with red railing and green glazed tile, solemn and magnificent.
Fuguang (Buddha's Aureola) Mountain is located at the north-east area of Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County, Taiwan Province. It is known as the "Budhist Capital in south Taiwan". Its founder, Great Master Xing Yun, who was born in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, constructed Fuguang Mountain in Kaohsiung County in 1967.
