Svoronata is located in the Southwest of the island of Kefalonia, approximately 4 miles south of Argostoli, and 2 miles south of Lassi. Although Svoronata is only minutes from the airport the area is peaceful and scenically very beautiful with lots of olive groves and fields full of wild flowers. Svoronota is a small inland village, measuring 1 ml by ¾ ml with no real centre, split in 2 by a steep, narrow, winding road and comprising 2 churches, a few tavernas and some extremely narrow streets just about the width of a car in places.
The village has hotels including the Irinna and Blue Horizon and a variety of self-catering apartments and studios scattered around, many with their own pools and snackbar facilities.Kosmar and Libra feature the village in their brochures, but most of the good accommodation in the resort can be booked independently.
The area is suitable for middlemarket couples, singles and families wishing for a quiet holiday. The local area appeals to walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. Having your own transport an advantage , visit one of the car-hire shops in the area.
Svoronota is situated in the SW of the island, 4 mls S of Argostoli, 4 mls W of Pessada, 1½ mls E of the airport. Its setting is 1 ml inland, in steep, thickly wooded terrain which flattens out towards the rocky coastline before dropping sharply to the sea. In a fertile agricultural area of olive and citrus groves, vineyards and some cultivated fields.
Entertainment in the daytime consist of visiting the local beaches, wine tasting at nearby fruit farm, cycling or walking in surrounding area, taking in garden village of Kourkoumelata and Metaxata, where Lord Byron stayed in 1823. There is also a good go-kart track called Imola, just off the road from Svoronata to Avithos, which is open from about 5.00pm every evening if you fancy burning off a bit off energy after all the lazing around! It cost 9 euro per person for about 15 minutes
The nightlife is mediocre, it is alll centred around the local tavernas; for livelier options, try Argostoli and Lassi.
Avithos beach is about a mile from the centre of the village, its beautiful and remains uncrowded all season. Avithos is ideal for children as the water is shallow, and there are a 2 tavernas at the beginning of the beach, and space to park.
For Eating out there are a handful of tavernas, including a touristy cluster near Ammes Beach, offering the usual Greek/Anglo fare, fresh fish is the local areas speciality.
