Situated in Salzburg's scenic lake district, St Wolfgang is a short hop from Salzburg airport. It's a picturesque village of narrow cobbled streets and tempting cafés, set on the shores of Lake Wolfgang. The ski area of Postalm is a 35-minute bus ride away and offers 30km of runs, covered by 12 lifts. The runs are wide and open and ideal for beginners and lower intermediates.
For more extensive skiing, Gosau is an hour's drive away and includes 65km of slopes covered by nine drag lifts. The area is well supplied with cross-country trails and other activities include curling, snow shoeing, operetta evenings and torchlight walks.
A favourite place for walkers, hikers and sightseers of all ages. Not really a popular ski-resort but there are some cross-country trails around the lake and on higher levels.
There is something for everyone, from traditional chalet-style guesthouses to chic upmarket hotels and the historic White Horse Inn. They are all predominantly 3-star establishments.
St Wolfgang is situated in west-central Austria (11 mls south-east of St Gilgen, 30 mls east of Salzburg, 37 mls east of Salzburg airport, 130 mls south-east of Munich and its airport). St Wolfgang was built along the north-east side of a lake (Wolfgangsee), on undulating terrain, surrounded by the Alps.
