Salt Lake City, the state capital (Utah), and seat of Salt Lake County is located in the north central part of the state, it is 24 km (15 mi) east of its namesake, the Great Salt Lake, and lies along the western slope of the Wasatch Range. The entire Salt Lake Valley was once part of the basin of ancient Lake Bonneville.

Today, the Jordan River passes through the city. Salt Lake City is the international headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon Church. It is the largest and most important city in a large region of the interior West and serves as the industrial, financial, religious, and commercial center of Utah.

Downtown Salt Lake City is noted for its broad streets and spacious blocks, a legacy of the Mormon settlers who laid out the city in 1847. The city was built on a grid system based on the four streets bordering Temple Square, the focus of the downtown area. Despite being steeped in religious tradition, Salt Lake City is rapidly emerging as one of the foremost business locations in the country, attracting large numbers of high-technology firms and software corporations, and a favoured venue for major corporate and professional conferences and conventions.

The city is also growing in reputation as an outdoor recreation centre, enhanced by its international recognition as the excellent host of the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Situated in a basin between the rugged, snow-covered Wasatch mountain range to the east and the Great Salt Lake to the west, Salt Lake City's scenic backdrop frames a pleasantly spacious and hassle-free city that is surprisingly sensible and down-to-earth for a growing state capital.

Utah State Capitol Building - The Utah State Capitol Building in Salt Lake in Salt Lake City is one of the most popular tourist attractions for many reasons. Because of needed renovation of the building, inside walking tours will close on August 7th, 2004 for about 4 years. Even with the closing, the beauty and its architecture will still be available to see as well as incredible views of the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountains, the Great Salt Lake and the valley floor. "Salt Lake City, An Amazing View"!

Clark Planetarium - Star shows, laser/music concerts, science exhibits, and Planetarium Store. Great location for special events, receptions, and meetings. Groups up to 500.

Lagoon A Beach Waterpark - historically accurate Pioneer Village, and musical entertainment. Located 17 minutes north of downtown.

Hale Centre Theatre - 13 successful seasons prove this is Utah's premier family theatre. Excellent year-round live stage play comedies and musicals.

Salt Lake City has always been a traditional place with residents not going anywhere without the kids. A cheap night out at a chain restaurant or a buffet style restaurant still packs them in. But, Salt Lake City always had restaurants that served award-winning food, and to the delight of diners with educated palates, Salt Lake's dining scene has arrived and is expanding.
