Overview:

Ronda is a quiet picturesque town located in the hillside just 60km from Marbella and 116km from Malaga within Andalucia. The town which is steeped in history is dominated by the fact that the town is split in two sections by a 100m deep gorge. This spectacular gorge is bridged by the New Bridge (Puente Nuevo), built in 1751 and taking 42 years to build. This magnificent structure is one of the most photographed in Spain. On one side of the bridge is the old Moorish town with many historic buildings including the House of the Moorish King , worth a visit. On the other side is El Mercadillo, a more recent urban development. There is evidence of prehistoric man living near Ronda and the town has been influenced by every generation since. To the east of the town are the well preserved Arab Baths which were accidentally discovered when the house above them collapsed. The town is one of the most visited places in Andalucia and attracts thousands of visitors each week.

Locality:

The beautiful town of Ronda lies 60km up a winding mountain road from Marbella in the mountain range known as the Serranía de Ronda. It stands at an altitude of 739 m and has approximately 35,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most visited towns in Andalucia. Some artefacts found around Ronda date back to prehistoric times (as far as 28000 BC). Every architectural era is represented here including Roman, Arabic, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

Famed by standing on the edge of a giant plateau Ronda is steeped in history and beauty. It may be a popular destination of the holiday makers from the coast but it still manages to retain all of its perfect Andalusian charm. The main attraction is the Bridge across the cliff from the plateau. Another site to see is the famous bull fighting ring which reels in tourists from all over.
