A complete mini resort, ideal for families, and one of Ibiza's best known beauty spots with three good, sandy beaches to choose from. The largest beach S'Arenal Gros is in the Bay across from the main Coach Park; little S'Arenal Petit , which is more private, is around the corner from the rocky promontory to the left. The third is Playa Porto Beach , surrounded by little pineclad hillocks, it is in a little cove at the end of the main road. All these beaches have shallow water and are excellent for bathing.
The resort itself caters for many tastes. There is a games centre with bowling and pool-tables. There are music bars, pubs, quiz evenings, plenty of shops and a surprisingly active night scene. Because Portinatx is so popular with families, much of the accommodation is in self-catering apartments.
It is an entirely purpose-built development in a picturesque setting. Descending on the main road through high hills, the hotels and apartments are reached by three separate minor roads, mostly unconnected to each other, on the beach front.
Though tranquil by day, the resort bursts into life at night, with high-volume music and entertainment emanating from bars, restaurants and hotels.
Portinatx is in the far north of island, on a rocky coast with small sandy bays. (Ibiza town 18 mls; airport 22 mls). It is situated on rocky, pine-covered headlands backed by high, pine-covered hills. This market suits middle- to economy-market families and couples.
If you have hired a car, we can recommend a day trip to Portinatx for some real exploring. There are some good restaurants catering for day-trippers, and there are some great walks to be enjoyed through the countryside and along the rugged coastline.
The amazing, panoramic views of this picturesque Bay are a wonderful combination of diamond bright, translucent sea reflected in myriad shades of blue, the high, rocky shoreline and a seabed of fine, white sand. Do bring your camera, it is not for nothing that this little resort is a popular stop on the Round-the-Island trips.
Another fabulous way to see the dramatic shoreline of the north is to take the ferry from San Antonio. Or alternatively take a trip in the glass-bottom boat direct from Portinatx - one of the best value boattrips on the island, with a real variety of underwater life to admire.
During the daytime activities are mainly provided in hotels. Otherwise there is various water sports, bowling alley, waterslide (open high season only), volleyball, walking. The nighlife offers only one disco outside of the hotels.
