Overview:

The island is quite large and visitors need enough time to thoroughly enjoy its offerings; bamboo rafting for instance. The northwest coast resort at Montego Bay is world-famous for beaches and luxury resorts. It is a thriving port and Jamaica's largest city after the capital, Kingston.

For dining, beaches, sports, shopping and nightlife, Jamaica takes top honours as a world-class travel destination. A recent Conde-Naste Traveller article featured Jamaica as "the soul of the Caribbean.....its proud and passionate spirit...keeps the legendary luxury resort full of life all year round."

Port Antonio, located on the northeast coast of jamaica. Port Antonio is situated on the coast just north of the Blue Mountains, the town is surrounded by some of the most rugged and beautiful scenery in Jamaica.

You need spend no more than an hour touring the center of raffish Port Antonio-there's not that much to see. Another hour can be spent visiting the markets. After that, it's either back to your resort to lie on the beach or, if you're adventurous, you can drive along the coast or dip into the hinterlands south of Port Antonio.

East Of Port Antonio - The east coast from Port Antonio wins the beauty contest for one of the most beautiful shorelines in the Caribbean, and most definitely in Jamaica. There's a nostalgic aura to it, too, as if it yearns to return to the glamorous 1950s and 1960s when celebrities haunted its coves and villas much more often than they do today

The Folly Great House - go here only if you don't have a lot to do in the day, and expect to see a roofless structure with weeds growing up through the foundations. Perhaps it'll inspire you to write a Gothic novel.

The desecrated ruins lie on Folly Peninsula in the East Harbour, right on the outskirts of Port Antonio. Broken bottles and graffiti have replaced the luxurious appointments of yesterday.

If you drive out to the end of Folly Peninsula, you'll see the Folly Point Lighthouse , which makes a good spot for a picnic overlooking Woods Island or Monkey Island (among its other names), where Mitchell kept a monkey zoo.

Turtle Crawle Bay - At a point 3km (1 3/4 miles) east of Port Antonio, you blink and then blink again. Your eyes aren't deceiving you. On a headland jutting out into the sea stands Trident Castle , all gleaming white and looking like something Walt Disney might have created in an off-moment. Locals sometimes call it "Folly II" (after The Folly Great House), because the faux castle lay unfinished for many years for lack of money.
