Playa Dorada is a beach resort town and offers tourists everything they could dream of. With it's 15km of unspoilt beaches you'll be able to have an awsome time in the sun, relaxing on the beach or doing some watersports activities. This is one of the best beach resorts in the Caribbean.

Playa Dorada is a secure compound, and several of the resorts have discos.  Since all the resorts are all inclusive now, except for discos and casinos, the other resorts are off limits if you are not a guest there.   In Playa Dorada, except for resort employees, you will only meet other tourists.  They come from all over Europe, Canada, the USA and from Latin America.

In the city of Puerto Plata you will find lots of discos, bars, restaurants and a few night clubs.    You will find that shopping in Puerto Plata is at prices about half that of the shopping plaza in Playa Dorada or the resort gift shops.  You can take the "B" bus from the main gate at Playa Dorada for a few pesos or a taxi.  Yes, it is safe to walk around in Puerto Plata in daytime, and no, you do not need a guide.

This resort is predominantly well-funded, suitable for beach-loving couples of all ages; particularly popular with honeymooners. Many others come just for the golf. There is over a dozen good-quality hotel complexes, some better than others, but all pretty much adhering to the same formula. Several are set behind the long sandy beach; others less fortunate generally have small private sections with a beach bar and loungers.

Playa Dorada is on the Atlantic north coast, on a stretch known as the Amber Coast.( 4 mls E of Puerto Plata, 9 mls NW of Puerto Plata airport. 15 mls W of Sosua. 135 mls NW of Santo Domingo). It occupies a flat site complete with man-made lakes, set between the main coast road and the curving sandy coastline; bisected by a narrow creek.

Golf - The Playa Dorada Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is one of the top attractions of the town. This golf course is a must for any golf enthusiast, they alsoo offer training facilities to help those new to the sport. The golf course offers fun for people of all ages and ability, don't miss out when in town.

Playa Dorada Beach - This rocky beach is one of the best on this side of the coast, with warm water and many palm trees providing some shelter from the hot sun. This is a great place to take the whole family for a fun and relaxing day in the sun. There are massage ladies that walk around the beach offering massages at $15 for a half an hour massage.

The nightlife offers a choice of discos and unsophisticated casinos at a handful of larger hotels, with 1 or 2 lively music bars around the Plaza. All properties provide live shows and Tannoyed music until late. Visitors on all-inclusive packages tend to dine in their own hotels which provide generous buffets although most have at least 1 a la carte specialist restaurant. Several cafeterias and relaxed restaurants can be found in the Plaza.
