Perama is close to the airport and subject to some noise. Perama stretches intermittently along half a mile or so of busy, winding main coast road, with a cluster of amenities situated in a short 300-yard burst.

It can hardly be classed a resort it is more a collection of tavernas with the odd shop and car/scooter rental places and, although bustling in the past, it has become a little depressed latterly, with a few shops and one or two other sites closed up.

There are some restaurants and hotels well positioned to give romantic views across the water to Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse Island.

About half a mile away, there is a narrow causeway across to Kanoni on the opposite side of Halikiopoulos Lagoon; those walking across it when a plane descends may fear for their lives!

This are attracts the self-sufficient types. It is not suitable for the elderly or infirm owing to steps to coves, there is nothing particular for children or teenagers.

Perama is on the east coast, (5 mls S of Corfu Town; 4 mls S of airport). It is on an elevated stretch of coast road with sea below to one side and verdant steeply rising hills on other.

There are a couple of moderate hotels, supplemented by private rooms for rent and one or two self-catering options.

The beaches here are small shingle coves, all of which are reached by steep steps down from coast road. There is no golden sand and few amenities. Where Gerald Durrell first discovered Corfu's aquatic wildlife.

Shopping here is limited to the basic necessities. There is nothing useful like a bank, cashpoint or pharmacy.

During the daytime is low key and limited to lying in the sun.

The nightlife is mainly confined to the hotels themselves. Nearby Benitses has more choice.

There is a small selection of tavernas and restaurants, some with panoramic sea views.
