The main road to the south of the island passes through here, near the village and through Benitses and Moraitika, northwards, this road runs along the coast, separated from the sea only by a narrow strip of land with views to sandy beaches the sea and the Greek mainland mountains to the east.
As far back as Roman times, and still today, this coastline has been the first choice of the summer holidaymaker.

Mesongi village itself is seperated from Moraitika by the Messongi river, which flows into the sea at a point between the 2 villages. At both sides of the river you can find warm sandy beaches, ideal for bathing, and plenty of tourist services.

There you can find small secluded bays to a long beautiful sandy beach. During the day the life revolves around the beaches and the water sports and then as night falls the whole resort is one big party. You can find from small typical Greek tavernas serving traditional dishes to luxury restaurants which serve a variety of menus.

This area is suitable to those seeking a low-key, relaxed holiday, mainly families, mature couples and a few young people. There is a mixture of nationalities. Anyone into manic nightlife would do better to choose elsewhere.

The accommodation is a choice of budget self catering, small no-frills to mid-range hotels and a vast hotel complex.

Messonghi is situated on the south east coast, (13¾ mls S of Corfu Town and airport. Just over 1 mile S of central Moraitika). It is located on a flat coastal area, gently rising at rear, with olive-clad hills inland. Separated from resort of Moraitika by Messonghi River.

There is a stretch of fairly narrow coarse sand with some shingle and small pebbles, running in a sweep to a headland to the S, a few fishing caiques lie at anchor offshore. There are sunbeds and parasols for hire. The shallows are suitable for children.

There is a supermarket, a few general stores and a couple of souvenir outlets. Also a bakery, medical centre, jewellery shop and one selling Greek ceramics. There is no bank or cashpoint but there is a foreign exchange.

During the daytime activities are confined to beach and water sports.

The nightlife is limited to bars and tavernas, a wider choice is avaiable in neighbouring Moraitika.

There is a small selection of restaurants and tavernas, a few lining the beach. Greek and international cuisine. Lots of fish.
