Merseyside is commonly known as the golfing capital of England, Merseyside is host to over 40 courses, including Royal Birkdale , Royal Liverpool and Formby Golf Clubs . Enjoy the picturesque golfing coast along with the nature reserves stretching from Southport to Wirral. If sport is not your forte then there's plenty more to interest you, including some of the finest architecture in Europe with the Anglican Cathedral , Metropolitan Cathedral , the Walker and St George's Hall .
Merseyside canbe found in the North/West of England and the warmth of the people and the welcome remain the chief attractions, along with a rich maritime history.
For the visitor, a true taste of Merseyside can be found at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. It is in a former bonded warehouse, part of the historic Albert Dock on the banks of the River Mersey. The museum, opened in 1980, tells the story of one of the world's greatest ports and the people who used it. The museum's collections reflect the international importance of Liverpool as a gateway to the world, including the city's role in the transatlantic slave trade and emigration. The Maritime Archive and Library here contain one of the finest collections of merchant shipping records in the U.K.
At this museum, there is much to explore and do: retrace the steps of the nine million emigrants who left Liverpool between 1830 and 1930 for new lives in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; learn about the vital role of merchant ships in World War Two's Battle of the Atlantic; investigate the moving history of transatlantic slavery and discover the opulence of the Titanic and the Lusitania, the floating palaces of the Edwardian age.
