The resort of Maspalomas is a brilliant place to stay if you are looking for a party holiday! Like its neighbour Playa del Ingles, it caters for all, whether you are young or old, vacating with Friends or with the family it has day and night activities, that will keep you as busy or as relaxed as you would like!
You will never be stuck for anything to do! With an abundance of Theme Parks and tourist attractions either in Maspalomas or close by to the resort and plenty of nightlife too! The beaches in Maspalomas and surrounding the resort are some of the best on the island also!
If you are looking to paint the town red, the look no further, in true Spanish style once the sun goes down the restaurant, bars and nightclubs come alive!! If you like the hip-swaying salsa music, Live bands, Cover bands, jazz, or anything else then you will find it here!
Irish bars and English bars galore!! In Plaza Maspalomas, Sunset Boulevard has live music and entertainment every night with DJs playing the latest music - It is good for pasta dishes, pizzas and freshly grilled meat too! Alabama's is brilliant and probably the best for RnB, soul, blues, reggae and rock & roll you'd be hard pushed to find better live music than here!
Near Maspalomas Plaza and Kasbah, is Harley Rock this is a favourite haunt with tourists. Harley Rock is an American-style diner with "Tex-Mex" food, that is served till 3am, rock music and live shows. There's a happy hour from midnight till 1am!
This area is quieter than Playa del Ingles, but busy all the same, it is frequented by budget-conscious self-catering Germans, Scandinavians and a fair number of British of all age groups. The summer attracts younger party-minded crowds. Don't expect too much sleep and peace, and count those catnaps out. The upmarket area of Oasis Maspalomas attracts the more well-heeled guests.
The accommodation here is mainly mid-range apartments and villa complexes of reasonable quality, with the majority 1 or 2 keys and in the middle price range, all of them virtually all have pools. There are several large luxury hotels in Oasis Maspalomas and the developing area of Playa de Meloneras.
Maspalomas is on the South coast of this almost circular island (1½ mls W of Playa del Ingles, 37 mls SW of Las Palmas, 20 mls SW of the airport). It occupies a broad, mainly flat area between the highway and the sand dunes stretching to the shore. There is a wide seasonal riverbed with bridges runs through the middle, almost to the sea with a backdrop of barren mountains.
Maspalomas Beach is a gently sloping, sometimes windswept beach of fine sand that runs virtually unbroken eastwards towards Playa del Ingles. It's backed by a magnificent expanse of Sahara-like dunes that extends over a mile inland (popular with large numbers of naturist and gay holidaymakers).
Faro 2 is the somewhat old and dated central shopping centre. One or two additional shopping centres, all offering lots of beachwear and souvenir shops, a couple of boutiques and a good choice of duty-free shopping, as well as a plethora of bars and restaurants.
There are three or four small modern shopping centres along the promenade beside the lighthouse at Oasis Maspalomas offer the same, as well as several more boutiques and craft/jewellery shops. Most goods, apart from those at the designer boutiques, are inexpensive. During the daytime the main activities are golf, horseriding, tennis, mountain-bike tours, amusement park, camel safari park, crocodile park, animal park, water park, roller-skating, windsurfing and impersonating Beau Geste among the dunes.
There is some surfing potential at the West end of Maspalomas beach.
The nightlife offers several restaurants along the promenade at Oasis Maspalomas, most hotels have nightclubs and/or evening shows. Otherwise, best to make the short trip to Playa del Ingles for a host of diversions.
There is a wide range of unsophisticated eateries in and around the "commercial centres" which provide mainly low-quality meals for the masses. More upmarket choice along the promenade beside the lighthouse at Oasis Maspalomas. A wider selection to be found a short distance away in Playa del Ingles.
