Overview:

Malgrat is one of those places that makes you feel welcome. It doesn't seem to have the "Rip Off" mentality that some more southern resorts have. There are lots of shops all selling the same things, which leads to competition!

As for the town itself the old town is still very Spanish in every sense and there are some lovely little bars and cafes. There is a railway here that doesn't really intrude, the trains become part of the background to the town, they run on time and are very handy for getting to Barcelona cheaply.

The beach is very coarse sand and the sea shelves steeply 'Watch the kids'!! All in all a nice comfortable tourist Resort.

This is a fairly lively no-frills resort, specialising in good-value holidays.

The accommodation here is mainly 2- and 3-star hotels and apartments, many of them old buildings that have been renovated. Newer purpose-built package-tour properties in Santa Susanna.

Locality:

Malgrat De Mar can be found in north east Spain, on the Mediterranean coast, at the south end of the Costa Brava (8 mls SW of Lloret de Mar, 39 mls NE of Barcelona, 32 mls S of Gerona and its airport). It is located on flat, fertile land between the sea and a ridge of steep, wooded hills.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

During the daytime the activities are limited mainly to simple beach activities, some tennis, adventurous quad-bike hire. There is a better choice at Calella which is 4½ mls away.

The nightlife here consists of plenty of bars and half a dozen discos spread along the sea front. Not a resort for intensive nightlife.

For restaurants there is not much variety on the sea front it is all mostly fast food and low-cost international cuisine. You have a better chance of finding a decent restaurant in the town, these all mainly serving fresh fish and simple Catalan cooking.
