The resort of Los Gigantes along with its nearest neighbours Puerto Santiago, and Playa la Arena have, for all intents and purposes, over recent years all now merged to form the largest resort destination along the west coast of Tenerife.
The focal point of the resort is without doubt the superbly equipped marina which has moorings for almost 400 vessels up to a maximum length of 20 metres. This facility has on more that one occasion been described as being "the best in Tenerife" and although clearly an exaggeration of the truth, it certainly helps to raise the profile of the resort to have a number of expensive yachts moored here.
This resort is relaxed and low key, suitable for more discerning couples and families. The accommodation is mainly high-density, low-rise apartments and hotels, some of which are tiered down the cliff side. Most apartment blocks are small and quite well designed. There area a couple of good-quality hotels.
Los Gigantes is at the west end of the south west coast (20 mls NW of Playa de las Americas, 35 mls NW of the airport by good road most of the way). It is set on steeply sloping terrain, backed by a mountain and sheltered by huge black cliffs, which provide protection and stunning views.
Playa los Guios at Los Gigantes is horseshoe shaped with black volcanic sand, there can be some strong undercurrents. Public bathing at Oasis Lido. Playa de la Arena, to the S of the resort, has black sand, a palm-lined promenade and good public toilets/changing rooms; popular with locals at weekends.
There is a very limited choice for shopping in this resort, but it is adequate for most needs.
During the daytime the activities are mainly beach and lido based, there are some water sports including a diving centre, exploring the striking, stark hinterland; catamaran trips to see dolphins and whales, boat trips, and a sports centre with tennis courts.
The nightlife in Los Gigantes is limited but always expanding, they seem to be centred on the newer area of Los Gigantes.
There is ample choice of restaurants located throughout a wide area.
If you fancy island hopping for the day the port nearby in Los Cristianos will take you to the nearby island of Gomera or even Gran Canaria in less than an hour! So you will never be stuck for anything to do!
