Holiday guide Incekum

An offshoot of the major resort of Alanya, 15 mls to the SE, Incekum is officially categorised as a town with a population of 2,000. It is no more than a badly planned ribbon development following the coastal highway. There is a commercial centre with a range of shops and restaurants but little else.

Some of the better beach hotels are here, and the location suits lazy beach lovers willing to spend more than in neighbouring Alanya. Mainly 3- and 4-star hotels which tend to be well-equipped to encourage holidaymakers to spend as much time (and money) in-house.

The region, bathed in sunshine for 300 days of the year, is a paradise for sunbathing, swimming, and sports activities like wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, mountain climbing and spelunking.

Incekum is located halfway along Turkey's S (Mediterranean) coast, 65 mls E of Antalya airport by generally good coast road. It is on a flat strip of land, very green and used intensively for agriculture, between the S-facing shore and, a few miles inland, steeply rising mountains.

There is 6 miles of sand superior to that of Alanya, but not by much.

The shopping here is very limited, better to make the short trip to Alanya for a wider choice of wares.

Daytimes are spent on the beach, as this is only a small resort there is not much else apart from the Aqua Park, on the eastern coast, where every kind of water sport is available, including exciting water slides. The nightlife here is again limited to the hotels themselves. It is quite a trip to Alanya and back for livelier options.

Eating out is limited mainly to eating in, although there's a choice of restaurants scattered along a long stretch of dusty tarmac.
