Overview:
Spectacular, breathtaking, majestic. There's no better description of the torrents of water cascading down Iguassu Falls, one of the largest and most impressive falls in the world. The name Iguassu comes from the Guarnani Indian word meaning "great water."
Situated on the border of Brazil and Argentina, the 275 falls plunge over a precipice more than a mile and a half wide with an average drop of 300 feet to the Iguazu River below. Every second, 450,000 gallons of water come tumbling down.
Seventy percent of the falls are actually in Argentina, but arguably a better overall view of the falls can be seen from the Brazilian side. Each year, millions of visitors gaze at the falls, which are 60 feet higher than Niagra Falls and about one and half times as wide. Clouds of spray continually emerge from Iguassu against a backdrop of lush tropical growth.
Locality:
Situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina, they lie 19 km upriver from the confluence of the Rio Iguazu and the Rio Alta Parana.
Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:
The Iguassu Falls arena is breathtaking and whilst Niagara Falls is more famous it cannot boast the height, width and sheer volume of water that Iguassu can. The tourist to the falls can simply just take in the amazing scenery from a number of lookout points and viewing platforms or embark on nature walks with a number of tour guide companies.
The Brazilian Side - The Brazilian side of the falls boast an incredible overall view of the falls (as the majority of the falls are located on the Argentinian side). The gentle walk parallel to the falls, allows the visitor to gaze at the incredible views and take a bridge walk out over the falls. Tours consist of a variety of boat trips to which some, take the passengers close to the more mild of the waterfalls for a thorough soaking.
The Argentinian Side - Whilst the Brazilian side arguably boasts a better overall view of the falls, the Argentinian side contains the grand prize, being the bridge walk to 'The Devils Throat'. The Devils throat is the epi center of the falls. The Argentinian side also features a variety of bridge walks taking the vistor through treks & trails that get up close and personal to the grand falls themselves.
