Overview:

For many years Icmeler’s reputation has been based on its beach, a wide sweeping sandy bay, and on its proximity to Marmaris. Icmeler has gradually developed into a sophisticated resort in its own right, greener and with a more relaxed atmosphere than its larger neighbour, Marmaris, just 8 km away to the south.

The locals are very proud of the reputation the resort has achieved and they work hard to keep up standards by ensuring the beach is swept daily, the flower beds are always colourful and the footpaths are free of litter. The beach is well supplied with sun-beds and umbrellas where you can simply relax and enjoy the sun or participate in one of the many water sports which are available from the bay, kept separate from the swimming areas.

Icmeler has a good cross section of restaurants and lokantas, with their unique style of home cooking, bars and shops. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, reminiscent of the Norwegian Fjords, with steep pine clad hills tumbling virtually into the clear blue waters of the Aegean.

An evening stroll along Icmeler beachfront after dinner, along the traffic free promenade, which stretches from the Bay of Icmeler to the Marmaris Marina is highly recommended. Icmeler with its lively atmosphere, cosmopolitan nightlife and shops is an ideal resort for adults and families.

This resort is suitable for those looking for lazy days on the beach and informal evenings with something to suit a wide range of tastes, from lively to more laid-back. The accommodation here is modern, well-maintained hotels of various sizes offer predominantly good-value B&B stays with a few 4- and 5-star options; most within a short, level walk of the beach. Growing number of self-catering apartments.

Locality:

Icmeler is in south west Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast, north of the Greek island of Rhodes. It is 6 mls SW of Marmaris, 72 mls W of Dalaman airport, 81 mls SE of Bodrum airport. It is set behind a narrow inlet on the SW side of a large, picturesque bay, facing Marmaris across the water. It is on a small, flat plain tucked between high, craggy, forested foothills dropping steeply down to the sea.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

The beach here, though narrow and of coarse sand, it still easily beats that of Marmaris and offers a good range of beach amenities, water sports and boat trips. At peak season, the beach is of insufficient size to accommodate all bodies comfortably.

There are many tourist shops, souvenir stalls and relatively expensive minimarkets. There is a far better choice in Marmaris although it can be quite intimidating.

During the daytime activities are limited to water sports, including windsurfing, pedal boats, jet-skiing and diving (with an international diving centre). There is also boat trips and visits to local Marmaris where there is a lot more on offer..

The nightlife here consists of walking the beachside promenade, where bars and simple restaurants vie for attention with blasts of music. There is a disco, casino, and some hotels provide occasional entertainments; otherwise, more choice in Marmaris.

There is an Aadequate choice of restaurants in addition to those in hotels, there is 1 or 2 snack bars. but again a wider choice in nearby Marmaris.
