Overview:
Figueretas is essentially an extension of Ibiza Town, and measures a compact ¼ ml by ¾ ml. It is chiefly a purpose-built holiday resort of mainly high-rise hotels and apartments, it has little charm or historical interest, though its proximity to Ibiza Town makes it a good base to explore the wide choice of lively entertainments there. It's also a beach resort, and has an attractive palm-fringed promenade running around the bay, which, from early evening until late, has little market stalls with artisans selling hand-made trinkets.
Locality:
Figueretas is situated on the SE coast of Ibiza, extending from ½ to 1 ml due S of Ibiza Town centre (3 mls from the international airport). It is separated from Ibiza Town on the coast by a rock some 200 ft above sea level. The resort is on a steep incline at the N end, which lessens towards the S, where it becomes almost flat. The entire area is built around a semicircular bay.
Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:
The area is particularly suitable for couples or singles; children would have a better holiday at Playa d'en Bossa. The resort is also popular with gay holidaymakers, with one hotel catering purely for gay clientele.
There are a range of hotels from 1 to 4 stars, but with a preponderance of apartment complexes.
Beachwise there are a series of narrow beaches (some partly man-made) interspersed with rocky outcrops. Generally rather poor-quality sand.
Daytime activities here include: visits to historic Ibiza Town, with its archaeological museum, 13th-century cathedral, 16th-century church, Roman (and earlier) remains and Sa Penya old fishermen's quarter. Water sports and pedalloes; multisports courts. Aguamar water park and Club Fiestaland at the adjoining resort of Playa d'en Bossa. The nightlife consists of discos, plus hotel entertainment and music bars, but much more in Ibiza Town, including a casino with live shows.
