Overview:

In a land often best known for its rugged landscapes and rugged weather, the city of Dundee stands out as a place that is truly special.  Located close to the mouth of the River Tay, Dundee is a popular destination along the eastern coast of Scotland.  It is well known for enjoying more hours of sunshine and cleaner air than any other city in Scotland.  And as the fourth largest city in the country, you can be sure there is plenty to do and see while you are there.

Scotland as a whole is a country rich with history, and Dundee is an important part of this richness.  The location of modern day Dundee has actually been home to some form of human settlement for thousands of years.  A good example of this are the Pictish ruins located on the outskirts of Dundee, which date back as far as the early expansion of the Roman Empire.  Visiting the ruins is something all holiday-goers should consider, as they are both interesting and a great deal of fun.

Locality:

Dundee is located along the North shore of the Firth of Tay near the SE coast of Scotland in close proximity to Perth.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

As far as historic attractions go, they are plentiful in and around Dundee.  Castles are found all over Scotland, and several of the most interesting are in the Dundee area.  Visitors can explore and experience these historic treasures, including Mains Castle, Dudhope Castle, and Broughty Castle.  There are also plenty of museums, art galleries, and other attractions where the history of Dundee and Scotland can be explored and understood.

Dundee is full of contemporary and performing arts, which can be experienced in the many galleries and theatres. Also popular are the multi award winning Verdant Works, where discovering the past is made entertaining and enjoyable.

Dundee is a wonderful place for enjoying nature and the outdoors.  The city boasts numerous parks, gardens, and outdoor spaces where visitors can relax and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.  Another terrific option is to visit Camperdown Wildlife Centre, located about six kilometres to the north and west of Dundee.  It is one of Europe’s best wildlife parks, featuring a variety of native species such as the red deer, golden eagle, wolf, and brown bear, just to name a few.  For those who are enthusiastic anglers, Kingennie Fishings is a terrific place to appreciate the outdoors while enjoying a variety of fishing opportunities.

If something more active and modern is to your liking, Dundee boasts numerous outstanding golf courses, such as Downfield Golf Club, Camperdown Golf Course, Ballumbie Castle Golf Course, and Caird Park Golf Course.  There are also some other excellent modern facilities to consider in Dundee, including the Dundee Ice Arena and the Olympia Leisure Centre.
