Overview:

Charlotte is primarily a banking hub complete with futuristic high-rises and elevated walkways and is commonly referred to as the southern Big Apple. But don't expect a New York level of buzz. This is primarily a business town, with the added appeal of a few good museums, some excellent restaurants and a scattered but lively music scene.

Charlotte has a long history, but has only become a major city in the United States since the late 1980s. A stroll through some areas of the city is like walking back in the 18th century, in comparison a peek at the central business district will give rise to a completely different picture, with its array of new skyscrapers.

It's a city that's setting the pace for economic development. Home to 286 of the top Fortune 500 companies and more than 340 foreign firms. A banking center second only to NY's in size. Charlotte is also a sports mecca giving home to Panthers, Bobcats and NASCAR racing. Charlotte is also as much a hub for the arts as for finance and commerce.

Locality:

Charlotte is located in south-central North Carolina, near to the South Carolina border. It is the largest city in North Carolina and the 20th largest in the USA.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

The Historic Latta Plantation, Historic Rosedale or just an easy stroll through one of Charlotte's beautiful historic neighborhoods are highlights that give you an impression of what life in the Old South was like.

For people interested in modern attractions, head for the Discovery Place, one of the nation's top hands-on science museums with a Planetarium and Omnimax Theatre. Recent Omnimax treats have included "Michael Jordan...to the Max".

Nightlife in Charlotte can be very exciting too. Take a stroll down Tryon Street or a trolley tour through the South End district end you can get a taste of all the restaurants and bars that are on offer.
