Holiday guide Cambridgeshire

Cambridgshire can be located in the East of England. Whether you want to explore the famous Universities, experience the fine cuisine in its many restaurants, visit the extensive shopping areas or simply try a bit of punting on the River Cam, there is so much to see and do in Cambridgshire for the whole family, you are sure to enjoy exploring this beautiful County.

Popular attractions include:

Houghton Water Mill - A large timber-built watermill on an island in the Great Ouse, with intact machinery which is still operational. The mill has a restored working waterwheel and an art gallery exhibits work by artists every July and August. Last working watermill on the River Ouse. Hands-on displays. Art gallery displaying the work of artists.

Railworld - A hands-on exhibit which demonstrates combating vibrations and noise from rails. It is called 'Rail Embedment'. Railworld has a 22m long sausage shaped experimental train called RTV31.

Grafham Water Exhibition Centre - There are at least two halves to Grafham Water, here on the Northern Shore the visitor will find the exhibition centre with a small display showing how the reservoir was built, a useful gift shop and perhaps best of all a super place for a snack when you have had a good walk around some of the reservoir. You can also hire bikes from here.

Walpole Water Gardens - Admission is free to Walpole Water Gardens, an unusual place with over 20 kinds of eucalyptus, as well as palms, banana trees, bamboos, cannas, grasses and much more. Relaxing and welcoming, the picturesque grounds also include an art gallery featuring paintings and limited edition prints of wildlife and landscapes, a very good tea room, and shop selling exotic plants and Koi carp. Guided tours available.
