Altura

Overview:

Altura is a town in the Castellón area of the Province of Comunidad Valenciana, roughly ½ ml wide by ¾ ml long. The town is fairly developed with a purpose-built feel owing to its symmetrical road layout and rows of identical villas and apartments. The majority of the resort is made up of low-rise buildings with the usual complement of bars, eateries and souvenir shops; a large beachfront hotel dominates the skyline.

Locality:

Altura is located towards the SE corner of Portugal (10 mls E of Tavira, 30 mls E of Faro) and the international airport. Altura is situated on the beach front, in flat terrain with pine forest to the E.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

Altura is most suited to couples/families looking for self containd holidays with an economy to medium budget. It has a long, wide and flat beach with clean, fine sand in close proximity to a few restaurants and cafes. The beachfront hotel has a semiprivate area with its own sunbeds etc (charge). Accommodation here is generally mid-range self catering establishments with a couple of 3 star hotels. In terms of entertainment there is little here than the beach and entertainment programmes arranged by the various complexes. Eating out is centred around a few local restaurants serving mainly Portuguses or fish dishes. In terms of getting around Altura, a hire car is recommended. Taxis are scarce and an irregular bus travels to Villa Real.
