Overview:

Aghios Gordios, halfway down Corfu's west coast, has a mile-long stretch of sand backed by high cliffs which tumble dramatically into the sea. At one end lies a tiny offshore island, looking as if it has broken off the rockface and splashed into the water. As a rule, there's not much going on in lovely Aghios Gordios! During the day, most people are either turning golden brown on the beach while catching up on their reading, or exploring the pine-clad hills behind the resort, and nightlife is limited to a handful of friendly bar/disco bars. You can take a bus over to Corfu Town, about sixteen kilometres away, to enjoy the hustle and bustle and get in some serious shopping - but we bet you'll be glad to get back to the tranquil beauty of Aghios Gordios!

Locality:

Set around a peaceful, rather dramatic curving bay, ending at a steep, craggy islet, with a backdrop of tree-covered hills; approached via a steep road. Aghios Gordios is located midway down the W coast of the island, 12 mls SW of Corfu Town and airport.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

There's not a great deal of action at Aghios Gordios and holiday makers generally consist of quiet beach, walkers and nature lovers. A few supermarkets and souvenir shops, 2 doctors, 1 chemist, no bank but many money-changers are about as much as the place has to offer. During the day beach- and water-based activities including water-skiing, jet-skiing, paragliding, windsurfing, scuba diving and pedalloes; walking in nearby hills; sky diving are all popular activities and by night there is a beachside disco, supplemented by bars and tavernas. Excursions consist of half and full day: coach trips around island; traditional mountain town of Pelekas for spectacular views; water park inland at Aghios Ioannis; sightseeing trips to Corfu Town.
